May 1, 2025 — In a heartfelt tribute to the spirit of labour and dignity of work, a special Relief Distribution Camp was organized on International Labour Day at Kanganhall Achabal and Danow Bogund in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The initiative aimed to support and recognize the contributions of daily wage earners and labourers, especially those affected by economic hardship and seasonal unemployment.

Organized by local community leaders, civil society members, and with the support of various welfare organizations, the camp witnessed the distribution of essential relief items including ration kits, hygiene supplies, blankets, and other household necessities. Hundreds of labourers from the twin areas benefitted from this gesture of solidarity.

Speaking on the occasion, the organizers emphasized the importance of recognizing the struggles and efforts of the working class, especially in regions like Kashmir where harsh winters and frequent disruptions often make consistent work a challenge. “Our labourers are the backbone of the economy. Today, on Labour Day, we wanted to ensure they feel seen, supported, and respected,” said one of the lead volunteers at the camp.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the timely help. Many shared that such support during transitional seasons helps ease the burden of managing household needs when work opportunities are scarce.

The event concluded with a pledge by the organizers to continue such humanitarian efforts in the future and work towards long-term policies that ensure the welfare and empowerment of labourers across the region.

Labour Day 2025 in Kashmir thus stood not only as a symbol of remembrance but also of action—uplifting those who tirelessly build the foundations of society with their hard work and determination.
